South Asian Nominations in the Oscars 2023

This year Oscar winner Riz Ahmed and actor Allison Williams announced the final Oscar nominations on January 24. There were several South Asian films and South Asians in that mix. Here is a look at this year’s South Asian nominees at the Oscars.

Best Songs: The Golden Globe winner song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ was nominated for the Best Song category in Oscars.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, starring Sunita Mani, was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress twice, Best Directing and more.

‘Turning Red’ was nominated for Best Animated Film that features Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

‘All That Breathes’ by Shaunak Sen, Aman Mann, and Teddy Leifer received a Best Documentary Feature nomination. The documentary tells the story of two brothers trying to protect the black kite, a type of bird.

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ bagged the nomination in the Best Documentary Short category.

‘Stranger At The Gate’ by Joshua Seftel, featuring actors Saber and Bibi Bahrami, was nominated for Best Documentary Short.

‘Joyland’ by Saim Sadiq, a Pakistani film, was shortlisted for best international film and Pan Nalin’s ‘Last Film Show’, an Indian film was shortlisted for best international film.

The Oscars will air on March 12, 2023.
