Invisible Dangers of Radon ​

Radon Safety & Recovery Checklist

Wildfire smoke becomes radioactive when radon gas attaches to fine ash particles. Use this checklist to prevent deep lung exposure to alpha particles.

    • Wear a fit-tested N95/P100 respirator. Alpha-emitting particles bypass standard surgical masks.

    • Lightly water down ash and soil. This prevents radioactive aerosolization during debris removal.

    • Ventilate basements, trenches, and crawlspaces for 15 minutes before entry. Radon is heavier than air and settles in low spots.
